A very good discussion.
It's only been less than a week, but so far I haven't heard any
objections to the core suggestion.
The idea Brandon, Chris, and David raise sounds a lot like a tagline, as in:
Evergreen: Open Library Software
or
Evergreen ILS: Open, Strong, Secure
Etcetera...
Taglines aren't important when you get so big everyone knows what you
represent, but they can be helpful in establishing something not as
well-known. Note that Evergreen isn't the only open ILS, so ideally, the
tagline should establish what makes Evergreen what it is.

The fact that Evergreen is open source was also a big draw for me
getting involved with all this, and having that word "open" in there
somewhere prominently would keep that association "up front," so to
speak. As to retiring "open-ils" as the domain - that's probably
a good
idea, since Evergreen is now a well-known brand in itself.

It is a good idea to do the evergreen-ils.org
<http://evergreen-ils.org> to better represent the
software
being discussed/supported. However, I think 2 things are also
important:
1. Don't use multiple domains. That'll just get confusing over the
long
run.
Redirecting the existing domain is a good idea but use
xxxxxx.evergreen-ils.org <http://xxxxxx.evergreen-ils.org>
where xxxxxx is "www" or other host names depending on the
application.
(www,
test, staging, irc and so on as needed). That'll maintain brand
recognition.
2. keep OpenILS somehow related to the name. At least for me one
of the
key
"selling" points is that the software is totally open and available.
This should
continue to be part of the brand. Maybe the name of the software
should
be
"Evergreen: an OpenILS".
That's my 2 US Cents worth.
