We had the staff use SPRUCE (Manitoba's twin sister to Sitka) for 2 weeks for their personal library items. This way they got to practice checking out, checking in, placing holds etc. on each other before we went live for the public. It seemed to work really well and everyone felt more confident dealing with the public.

Our library, as well as our network, the Cariboo Library Network (CLN), are scheduled to go live with Evergreen in May of this year. The CLN is an integrated public library system that currently provides library services to residents of the regional district through 3 Area Branches (serving Williams Lake, Quesnel and One hundred Mile House) and 13 Community Branches (very small locations open around 10 hours a week in rural areas). In anticipation of training, I'd just like to hear if anyone has advice or comments on how the process has gone. Or more importantly, anything you wish you had done? Did you know . . . * that the Cariboo Regional District Library has 230,000 items, most of which can be borrowed? * we have over 3000 DVDs? * we have over 2000 music CDs? * last year, our patrons borrowed over 420,000 items? * annual inter-library loan traffic (the amount of books we lend to other libraries) has doubled since 2001? * we add roughly 15000 items to our collection each year? I'd just like to ask about o -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Melissa Lowenberg Sent: Thursday, February 25, 2010 12:35 PM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Cataloging questions Hello list members, Is there a way to "clone" a record in Evergreen? That is, if you have the 2010 edition of a travel guide, can you simply modify the 2009 record, and save it as a new record by changing the appropriate information and giving it a new control number? Also, when you are doing a batch upload of records is there any way to "force" a record to load even if it matches one already in the database? Since I use a different MARC editor than the one in Evergreen, I would find it easier to improve records by loading a better version of the record, then merging the two. Is this possible? I have tried not checking the "Auto-Import Non-Colliding Records" box, then selecting the records I want to load and "Importing Selected" - this didn't seem to replace or duplicate the record in question. Any assistance would be much appreciated, Melissa -- Melissa Lowenberg, Supervisor of Support Services TNRD Library System #300-465 Victoria Street Kamloops, BC V2C 2A9 Tel. 250-374-8866 Fax 250-374-8355 Please consider the environment before printing this email. ************DISCLAIMER************* This e-mail and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
