Hi Deanna, We came across the same situation when we migrated from our previous ILS. We also created a "Claims not checked out" in our previous ILS.
To handle this in Evergreen our library manually created both these Statuses on Evergreen. Then when we need to use them, we just change the status in the Copy Editor. When staff are on our Circ desk and have a patron come up to them and claim either they never had the item or claims they returned it, we check the patron record, and jot down the item's barcode. Then clear the CKO screen, and press F5 [Item Status screen], type in the barcode and press enter, then when the item displays in the list, we highlight it, and from the 'Actions for Selected Items' menu we select 'Edit Item Attributes'. The Copy Editor will then appear, we just double click on the Item Status box and change the status. Then click 'Modify Copies'. The item now has the new status. Hope this helps! We added one called “claims not checked out” for those times when a patron could convince us that they had an item on their account that they were certain they had not checked out. When it happened, it was often that a clerk failed to clear the screen before checking out the next patron. Evergreen does not handle “claims returned” as a status, so I “claims not checkout out” may not work as a status either. How are other libraries handling it? Any suggestions?
