Subject: Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Keyword search result tuning

Hi Michael,

I only skimmed the post before sending the link, but now that I look at it more
closely, I want to clarify something.

When looking at his tips, you'll want to skip the step that starts with "Bump
the relevance when the first search term appears first in the title in a
keyword search" because it makes use of that table I mentioned below where
people have reported performance issues in more recent releases of Evergreen.

The real magic is in adding a weight to the new index you create. What you
basically are doing is creating a new title index that's in the keyword class,
not the title class. You can then apply a weight to that index so that those
words are weighted a little more heavily than other words found in through a
keyword search.

There is also now a staff client interface where you can create that index and
apply the weight - Admin -> Server Administration -> MARC Search/Facet Classes.
However, even if you create the index there, you still need to follow the step
where you then populate the metabib.keyword_field_entry table with entries
based on that new index.

I hope this helps!

Hi Michael,

Dan Scott wrote an excellent post about this years ago for 1.6 that is still
applicable to current releases of Evergreen -
http://www.coffeecode.net/archives/218-Adjusting-relevancy-rankings-in-Evergreen-1.6,-some-explorations.html.

Just a note that the search.relevance_ranking table he mentions early in the
post is something our consortia do not turn on due to performance issues that
arose in 2.0. However, the rest of the blog post on how to weight indexes is
something we've done in two of our consortia.

Hi All,

I've searched markmail so forgive me if this has been discussed before.  When I
do a keyword search in our catalogue is there a way to have it weight the title
higher than other keywords.  For example if I do a keyword search for 'The
Replacements' the first page of results shows "The Replacement Wife" as the 1st
result, 8 results that don't have replacement in the title and then the 10th
result (what I was actually looking for) is 'The Replacements'.  link here

So what is the best way to get 'The Replacements' to the top of that list for a
keyword search?

Thanks,
