I can see removing the options from the advanced search page to avoid
confusion for users; I'd also be curious to see some results from
trawling logs to see how frequently they get used (and might do some
of that myself).  IMO, the underlying features of the search grammar
still belong in the search engine, though.

Yes, I agree. I just wanted to remove the options from the advanced search page. I agree the ability should continue to be available for those who know how to construct the query.
