In my role as the release manager for the next Open64 compiler release,
I would like to communicate the current plan. This was discussed and
approved in the last meeting of the Open64 Steering Group. There has
been significant new functionality, performance improvements, defect
fixes and infrastructure improvements since the 4.2.3 release, The
next release will follow the planned cycle of annual updates.

The plan is to stop active development on trunk by Jan 31, 2011.
All new functionality and enhancements for the 4.2.4 release need
to be checked in by this date. If this date does not work for you,
please let me know and we can make adjustments to this date.

The bug fix (stage 2) for the release is planned for Feb 1 - Mar 20.
This period is for going through the release testing and fixing of
defects uncovered in the process or to fix open defects from the
Bugzilla database. On March 20, we would create a branch
for the 4.2.4 release and open the trunk for active development
for the next release. After a final round of testing, the plan is
to post the 4.2.4 release bits by March 31, 2011.

I would like to request anyone who has made checkins since
March 15, 2010 to consider updating the "changes in 4.2.4"
document, which is under the Open64 Wiki:

  http://wiki.open64.net/index.php/ActiveDevelopment

If you can volunteer for test builds, running test suites or
doing performance measurements on different platforms
during the the Feb-March stage 2 time, please let me know.
