I *have* attempted to break up the patches by "intent", which has caused

I am contributing the patches because AFS is a big help to the company
that employs me, flexelint is great at catching bugs in C/C++ code,
and we have a copy. If the patches are not wanted, that's not a
problem -- it's not my code, after all.
