This may be an issue with Solaris 10 as well as 9.
I see in the 1.3.70 source, there are defines for AFS_SUN510_ENV, and these are used in src/vfsck/setup.c among other places to bypass fs_interleave. See: http://www.openafs.org/cgi-bin/wdelta/solaris10-20040624
So does anyone have a server running on Solaris 10, where then can try vfsck?
I am "on vacation" (and actually doing pretty miserably at it, and having a rather crappy vacation to boot) but i have a 10 machine, so I'll get a server on it on Monday.
