Hi. With Excel 2003 on Windows, if a directory is readonly (say via acls), Excel cannot open the .xls document. The error is "Cannot access the file "filename". The file may be readonly or encrypted."
Now, if I copy the file to the desktop or make the directory rw, excel can open the file. Mac Excel / Openoffice Windows & Linux do not seem to have this problem. So, the problem seems to be w. Windows Excel.
