OpenAFS is not going to crash.  It just isn't going to do anything useful.   If you virtualize the afsd_service.exe as an application it will run and it will publish an SMB Server with the name "<MACHINE>-AFS" where <MACHINE> is whatever Windows NETBIOS name is present in the ThinApp virtual space.   All of the problems that the SMB server have on Windows 7/2008-R2 will exist and authentication will be interesting.

It just isn't going to be very useful.
