I suspect that the issue is not the Installable File System (IFS) but rather
the Shell Extension DLL (afs_shl_ext.dll). I also suspect the issue lies with
Windows rather than OpenAFS.

If you would like to try something, install ShellExView
(http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html) and disable the AFS extension and
reboot. I think all tool does for you is modify the registry but it's pretty
impressive and easy to use. I haven't personally tried this on Win 8 but it
seems to function without issue on Win 7.

Obviously this will destroy the ability to right-click and do anything AFS
specific in Windows Explorer and that's not a useful solution.

Mickey.
