Giovanni,

It is true that the output of "vos listvldb" is sorted as documented in
the man page

 http://docs.openafs.org/Reference/1/vos_listvldb.html

"By default, volumes are sorted alphabetically by volume name. Including
the -nosort flag skips the sorting step, which can speed up the
production of output if there are a large number of entries."

When sorting is disabled the output order will exactly match the output
order of the VL_ListAttribuytesN2 RPC.

That being said, Stephen Joyce's suggestion of defining separate backup
sets by geographic location is the wayto go.
