I have tried to use the switch -nosort but the resulting list is not
ordered in groups of volumes for same file servers while the backup dump
is indeed done server by server.
Anyhow I do agree that the best solution is to define different volsets
as suggested by Stephen and we will explore that solution!
Thanks everybody for the suggestions and have a good Sunday!

But vos listvldb provides a list of volumes alphabetically sorted by vol

Even if it makes use of the same routine the output provided forgets

Giovanni,
It is true that the output of "vos listvldb" is sorted as documented in
the man page
http://docs.openafs.org/Reference/1/vos_listvldb.html
"By default, volumes are sorted alphabetically by volume name. Including
the -nosort flag skips the sorting step, which can speed up the
production of output if there are a large number of entries."
When sorting is disabled the output order will exactly match the output
order of the VL_ListAttribuytesN2 RPC.
That being said, Stephen Joyce's suggestion of defining separate backup
sets by geographic location is the wayto go.
