That would be my suggestion. CMake's logic does not work for installing Python modules on Mac, because it doesn't attempt to find the site-packages. Simply saying the user needs to change their paths is a bit unfriendly, particularly since our previous "make install" worked to do TheRightThing. So I think we've made a big improvement in compiling, and fixing the install to use distutils would get us the rest of the way.
