I've been trying to build up the "contrib" repository:
https://github.com/openbabel/contributed

Basically, you could fork the repository, add a directory for JavaScript and 
then add a pull request. If that's too complicated, I'll try to add it this 
weekend.

I know there are a *lot* of people using Open Babel web apps, and this is a 
really clean intuitive way to read files.

We do not yet natively support json, but I think there are some pushes for a 
chemical json standard. But yes, I'd like to see native support added.
