Hi, hmhmhm.... from my experience 1.5 is not enough, you want Java 1.6. I made a blog post about it here: http://thenitai.com/2009/08/01/setting-the-correct-java-version-under-macos-x/
Now you are running 10.5.8 and that makes it a bit difficult since there is no official 1.6 release, me thinks. But at least you know what you have to do.
