BINGO!!

Added the jakarta virtual directory to my site and all is now good.

I first switched on extended error reporting as Jordan suggested.
That didn't show much more than we already knew.
But one thing it did show was that it had jakarta in the "physical"
path down which it was searching for the pages.
(is it not against the law to have a "physical" path point to a
"virtual" directory? ... should be)

A couple of notes...

* ISAPI Filters & Extensions ARE installed. (I didn't do that - it was
already there)
* ASP.NET & .NET Extensibility are installed, but ASP is not. (also
how I found it)

About jakarta.....
I could not remember whether I had set up my site before or after
installing bd.
I noticed that the jakarta virtual WAS part of the default site.
So I decided to create a new site to see what happens.
It did not bring the jakarta virtual from the default site, and
surfing to said site brought up the same 404.
Added the virtual to my new site, ... everything OK again.

The suggested host entry was present in the Tomcat config file, but I
believe that is because I added it yesterday.
I commented it out and rebooted. This resulted in a BD 404 when trying
to call my .cfm file.
I uncommented it and rebooted - all great now.

PS Ben: That "Hide extensions of known file types" checkbox is one of
Microsoft's more evil deeds, but I'll leave that soapbox for another
thread.

Again, if I can do anything to help sort out the pieces, please let me
know. We have a '08 AWS sandbox for a while.

And again ... Thanks All!
