The ability to modify the index isn't a huge deal, but it will create some performance overhead. We are having to retrieve it every time.
In the 10+years of this implementation, i am surprised it has only come up now, and to be quite honest, i am not at all keen in implementing it just for one use case. The overhead will be significant in long loops.
So ... for the time being, if it really is a big deal for you, then by all means build your own JAR file -- the wonders of open source give you that power.
Personally, i would rework your CFML code a little to not require this feature.
