I don't suspect OpenBD would perform any worse, and you do have easy control to up the number of threads and reduce the spool time if you want to dial things up a bit from the default settings. And of course since the license is free, you could always have an OpenBD instance dedicated to do nothing but send email if you wanted maximum mail sending capabilities. Ultimately you'd only be limited to the capacity of JavaMail, your server, and your receipients' ISP's tolerance for how much mail you want to send.
