Super interesting Peter!!
How about the performance of the machine? The SunJDK made the server
super irresponsible hitting the first hundred loops and took like
thirty minutes to reach nearly 5 hundred before die... super slow
Im using Jetty, it seem that the only ones that uses Jetty is Alan and
me haha
Doubt it has anything to do with Tomcat or Jetty itself since we're both
having the same problem.
This was development laptop about 2.5 years old - I was still coding on
it, listening to music, chatting on IM and using the web when I was
running the test and didn't notice anything slow. The OpenJDK was using
about 2GB of the 3GB of heap assigned to it and stayed really flat
through out.
What are the numbers you are having with the openJDK. Can openJDK
handle more connections while doing the loop? maybe is worth to check
jRockit or Kaffe
It took 609 seconds (just over 10 minutes) to run the 500,000 iteration
example I posted (which differs from yours a bit because I join 5
threads at once instead of a loop).
