This problem turned out to be that openca-addcert only has code for DB, not DBI. I hacked a mechanism similar to what the CGI scripts use, using the initdBI script from cgi-ca/lib. With this fixed, everything else fell into place. I had a couple problems with the comment environment variable, in openca-newcert and in cgi-ca/cmds/issueCertificate. I had to patch those to set nsComment as well as COMMENT, since Server_Certificate.ext and User_Certificate.ext expect nsComment. Has anyone set this up with mod_perl?
