eeeer - why is it not usefull - do whats written there and add
"SSLOptions +StdEnvVars +ExportCertData" to your config, best place to add is in the vhost-Section

there is a Troubleshooting Section on this in the guide - I think you forgot to export the SSLEnv in your Apache Config:
