Another problem might be missing utf8 support on the

Well, I'm not so sure about this, I'm using OpenSSL
0.9.8, that, as I have been told, has utf8 support.

You must explicitly activate the utf8 support. You can do this in the configuration files. OpenCA 0.9.2.3 will include support for this. I just commited the patch (contributed by Sergei and Julia from Cryptocom). If you only use openssl 0.9.8 instead of 0.9.7 then nothing happen.

Can you do a favor for me? I can send you a request,
one of my openssl files, the one used to create this
request with the new OIDs, and the extfile for you to
process in your PKI environment?

You don't attached your extfile. I have a full utf8 environment from CVS HEAD but I need your extfile to make a test.
