What is the current status of the OpenCA project?
Mmmm.. the status of the project is 'work-in-progress'. Currently I have
been working on several sub-projects to enable the OpenCA-NG project to
start. At the moment we lack quite a bit of contributions from the
developers,
that is why the release of new versions has been that delayed.
The website news on 2007/04/13 says that version v0.9.3-rc2 will be
released shortly and that was almost 8 months ago.
My bad... :( I just want to integrate support for IE7 + Vista, but I
can not
find the time to do that yet.
Also where is the current source repository? The one on SourceForge
seems to be out of date. The openca-0.9 directory looks like it
might be 0.9.2 based.
The current source repository has been moved to our 'internal' CVS.
This was
due to the need to radically change the distribution - and it is
painful doing
that on SourceForge as you do not really have control over it.
Would it be possible to get a current copy of the new repository? That
would reduce any chance of duplication of work with my changes.
Finally what is the process for submitting patches? I have a set of
changes to add support for issuing code-signing certificates.
Basically, submitting patches is a painful process. It is painful for
me because
I need to review them, and agree that this is something that:
1. Do not break the software in any way
2. Is something useful for the project
For this to happen, I really need a full description of the patch and
what it
is supposed to do, what it tries to achieve and in which environment
it has
been developed/tested. I would also appreciate detailed instructions
on the
usage and configuration of the new options and how to install the
patch (basically
if you just send in the .diff file, it would require too much work for
me, please
help me! :D)
I have a couple of patches, one bug fixes and the other new features.
I'll post them separately with descriptions.
If you are interested in being actively involved in OpenCA's
development, please
let me know - any help (and comment...) is really appreciated.
I guess that depends on your definition of "actively involved". I
contribute to almost a dozen Open Source projects. Some I manage, some
I have commit privileges, and some I don't. There are others where they
seem to be confused between voluntary contribution and indentured
servitude. I'm no longer involved with those ones.
Generally I contribute fixes to any bugs I find and develop and
contribute new features based on my requirements. Although if I'm
working on some aspect I'm more than willing to help out implementing
features for others.
Later,
Max
