Michael,

   Since LDAP usage (as opposed to the protocol itself) appears to be in a
drawn out transitional phase, v2 should probably be the default and a clear
path to v3 usage should be provided for, ie in the OpenCA ldap.conf
something like:

   ## Select your ldap version by leaving one of the following uncommented.
   ## remember to check your /usr/local/etc/openldap/slapd.conf for the
allow statement!
   ldap_version 2
   ## ldap_version 3


   Probably not your exact directives, but you get my drift :).
