It looks like your Perl installation has a problem. I use a Debian 3.1 Sarge and this includes the file /usr/lib/perl/5.8.4/CORE/EXTERN.h. The file is part of every Perl installation. Can you please check your system for EXTERN.h? Perhaps you have two mixed installations of Perl.
