Yes i install openssl 0.9.8 in /usr/local/ssl-9.8 and I declare an environment variable DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH with this path (path_openssl/lib).
My system is Mac OS X 10.3.8
I 'll still read the docs in demo2.openca.info.....

Are you using an utf-capable version of openssl ?? (afaik only 0.9.8 is
utf8 ready...)
Pls check your installation with the docs provided at demo2.openca.info
- I dont know much about utf8 support...
