Well that question is not so easy, as i didn't made tests with that. But i think, it will not work. I have not the deep view into encryption, but it maybe could work, if the keys of the new certificate are the same as the old one. Maybe some of the developers with more knowledge can make a clear statement. You can test that very easily, just export the old certificate, delete it in your store and the try to read emails.
