I think the private key just on your local machine,OpenCA can backup your certificate and the CSR.

what exactly do you mean by old keys? to proof a signature you won't need the
private-key, the certificate together with the public key would be still
available even after revoking it. And you don't want that anybody has your
private key backuped somewhere, since those (german) "qualifizierte digitale
signaturen" are legaly binding...

you may have to backup the ca-key but this is a different topic since we are
talking here about client-keys/certs
