First of all let me state that i had zero knowledge in PKI and learnt
a lot from the "madwolf" documentation. Thank you for that. I am using
openca-tools 1.1.0
and openca-base-1.0.2 and compiled and installed openca-tools without
any problems.

The installation procedure is not clear cut (I will elaborate if
required) from my (read absolute beginner's) perspective. I still
don't know if openca is installed properly on my system.

For example

This always fails
make install-online  *after*   ./configure
--with-node-prefix=online_node --with-your-options and make and make
test
fails with the following message (on both fedora10 and ununtu 9.4)

<snip>
make[7]: Leaving directory
`/home/XXXX/openca-base-1.0.2/src/web-interfaces/node'
make __install_dir USER=root GROUP=root MODE=644 DIR=/usr/local/etc/openca/menus
make[7]: Entering directory
`/home/XXXX/openca-base-1.0.2/src/web-interfaces/node'
make[7]: Leaving directory
`/home/XXXX/openca-base-1.0.2/src/web-interfaces/node'
+ /usr/bin/install -c -o root -g www-data -m 640 online_node-menu.xml
/usr/local/etc/openca/menus/online_node-menu.xml.template
/usr/bin/install: cannot stat `online_node-menu.xml': No such file or directory
make[6]: *** [online_node-menu.xml] Error 1
make[6]: Leaving directory
`/home/XXXX/openca-base-1.0.2/src/web-interfaces/node'
make[5]: *** [node] Error 2
</snip>

I could not find the following directories on my file system (to see
what it contains and afterwards change the shell script). The shell
script part could be elaborated.
<SNIP>
/Test/OpenCA/etc/
/Test/OpenCA/lib/servers/offline_node
/Test/OpenCA/lib/servers/ca
/Test/htdocs/ca
/Test/htdocs/offline_node
</SNIP>

make test for openca-base fails until i remove use strict from a lot
of files (not all) in openca-base-1.0.2/src/common/lib/cmds and after
that many sub tests fail. I get messages on the lines of
trying to substitute uninitialized variables (s///).

Hope you folks try to reach out to non-highly experienced sys admins
who want to see and try new software for the sake of learning.

Sincerly
Monke
