There was a new BIOS update released by Dell on their website just a few weeks ago
that addressed this issue for many of the PCMCIA cards I use in mine.
Before the update they didn't really work at all. Sometimes they'd power up but not
actually "work". After I installed the BIOS update, I was able to use both my Lucent
wireless ethernet card and the SCM smartcard
reader.
