As explained by Sun at a recent seminar for the UK Smart Card Club
(www.smartex.com), support for the ISO 7816-4 file system has been made
optional in the latest Javacard spec. Some suppliers contributing to this
forum have made it clear that some of their cards will continue to support
ISO file structures.
The relationship between Javacard Forum and Sun seems to be that Javacard
Forum controls the spec, and Sun then creates a reference implementation and
a verification suite. What we did not get chance to ask at the seminar is
whether Sun will verify implementations of the options in the spec.
But maybe there is an on-line forum specifically related to the Javacard
Forum, and that may yield a more comprehensive answer to this question.
