Kurt Kaufman : I'm new to this list ...
Alain : Welcome Kurt.
Kurt Kaufman : ...and am wondering where I might find some information
concerning the purpose and goals of the "OpenTalk" project, and some
specifics as to how the project is to be created.
Alain : For now, everything is informal. The purpose, goals and
specifics are in our heads and in our mail. For several months now, two
of my colleagues and myself have been developing a web-based
collaboration infrastructure for our groups that will feature the kind
of information that you were seeking in this mail, and much more too.
Stay tuned.
Kurt Kaufman : Not being a C or C++ programmer myself..
Alain : Nor am I.
Kurt Kaufman : ...I am nonetheless interested in how the parts of the
project would be linked together by the various contributors.
Alain : That is my primary interest.
Kurt Kaufman : perhaps a naive question: if one part is written in C,
and another in C++, does it make things more difficult?
Alain : That's the beauty of object-oriented design. Each object does
its own thing, with the language that it was coded in. But the overall
system that manages these objects will be language-independent.
Kurt Kaufman : ...Or do people sometimes nowadays refer to "C" and
infer "C++"?
Alain : It's possible.
Kurt Kaufman : Personally, I'd be happy to offer suggestions (if
desired) as to interface design, and to do testing of software.
Alain : We do have a section dedicated to the design and development of
our User Interface. Feel free to make any suggestions you wish. Your
participation in this collaboration is more than welcome, Kurt.
