Hi folks,
actually, there is a reason for AppleScript not being "sexy" in some
people's eyes: It's the patchwork nature of the vocabulary. Because every
program has some special verbs and nouns of its own, and every programmer
represents the same concept differently in their AppleScript dictionary,
AppleScript lacks in consistency if you pit it against HyperTalk.
And another point I don't like about AppleScript (I found that point in
CompileIt's HyperTalk dialect, too), is that it hides variable types from
the user while still employing it. Thus, users get many error messages
related to variable typing which they do not understand because AppleScript
officially has no strong typing.
This is why I find HyperTalk is superior to AppleScript. But AS has the
advantage of being the most understandable of all fully Object-Oriented
languages I ever found. AS is the best choice for the macro stuff (if they
improve their type conversion routines a bit). But it isn't HyperTalk, by
far. As long as that is noted, I agree that AS is great, and even that it
is kinda "sexy", although I personally prefer this word being used on
humans.
Cheers,
