> Anthony : I thought we were fixing that deficiency..?
Alain : Yeah ... but our efforts will not bear fruit for some time to
come, and then there is no guarantee that it will catch on and become
prevalent language of choice. Many new programming languages have been
created in the last few years. It seems to be a trend. Don't get me
wrong though. I am persuaded that our language/system will be great. I
am just pointing out the fact that there is much work to do on OpenCard
before it can compete with AppleScript in this regard.

Alain : I have two members of the UFP who are currently willing to work
with me on the UFP/OODL system for web-based collaboration.

Alain : Adrian was working on a Voting CGI, with some encryption thrown
in for security. But perhaps this does not exhaust the work that has
been contributed either. We would not have this "communication
breakdown" if our web site were up-and-running, so I apologize as well.
> Anthony : But, from a programming standpoint, the
> Interpreter and the FS are the most significant.
Alain : In some regards, you are right that the programming is the most
significant part of the project, but :
(1) many would argue that the interface is the most important aspect
because that is what the user experiences when he will use our system.
Programming and Interface are often at odds in a system. Which one will
have primacy over the other one when hard choices will have to be made
?
(2) I believe that the collaborative aspects are the most important for
the success and long-term viability of this team effort. Without a
solid infrastructure and some shared freely-agreed-upon rules, our best
efforts might be sabotaged by various conflicts. The licencing issue,
for example, is potentially explosive particularly when things will
have evolved to the point where commercial interests might cloud our
community-spirit.
Alain : So, in the end, each aspect of our collaboration is
indispensable : be it programming or interface or collaboration. To
each his own, and may the whole be greater than the sum of its parts.
We will all be better off. A win-win equation. :)
