Hi All:

Scott just informed me the listserve bounced this message because it
contiained "s u b" without spaces.

While there have been several suggestions that the altruism discussion be
moved off list, no new venue has been offered so far; so I would like to
offer an alternative proposal:

Suppose we continue to have one list but break the discussion into a few s
u b topics designated by the first four letters of the subject. Example:
all general list discussion is prefixed with "OODL" and threads such as
altruism might be prefixed with "OOPD" (OpenCard Offtopic Philosophical
Discussions). The same approach could be used for other s u b
topics--"OBID" (OpenCard Binary Interpreter Discussion) and "OOUI"
(OpenCard's Outstanding User Interface) come to mind. Those receiving
individual messages could have their eMailer route all "OOPD"s to the trash
if they wished to avoid off topic threads.

I was about to congratulate myself for that little piece of brilliance,
when I realized it's potential major failing: it does nothing to help
those who recieve the messages in d i g e s t form...unless entries in the
d i g e s t were presented sorted by the first four characters of the
subject and order received instead of just the order received. I don't
know anything about listservers; I suspect what I am suggesting is either
simply a matter of setting some parameters or it is unsupported. Is this a
viable option?

Anyway, I'll send some thoughts via OOPD for the time being.

<<End of original message: should I read anything into the listserver's
rejection of my message?
