Uli: Hi folks, just thought for completeness' sake I'll throw this in
also. It sounds pretty close to what we want...
Alain: Yet another licence! ;-)
Uli: ...although I'm not sure we want to restrict distribution of an
OpenCard clone that sets out to replace OpenCard. I think we should
allow that, too. But maybe we could use it, as everything else looks
rather good.
Alain: I read the licence. It does not seem to allow clones of itself
either. Part of the source can be integrated into a commercial product,
but this product must not be a replacement and must not use the name as
the original source, or so i think I read.
Uli: Please read this and tell me whether you think we could use it.
Alain: It is quite good. We thus have (at least) two strong candidates
for adoption as our licencing terms for OC. Namely "Perl Artistic" and
"Fourth World".
Uli: We could also ask Richard Gaskin if he would mind if we hijacked
his license as ours.
Alain: We should indeed ask him before proceeding.
Uli: Maybe he'd even help us in making the modifications in a way that
won't contain any legal pitfalls?
Alain: I doubt this, however. His licence is quite probably the best
option that he could offer us or himself. Otherwise, he would have
included in his own licence.
Alain: Is Richard Gaskin a lawyer? Did Richard Gaskin consult a lawyer
for the drafting of his licence? eg. has his licence been legally validated?
