Adrian, Alain (on vacation), et al:

Those of you who have followed this list from its inception may remember a
few pearls of wisdom from a seminar I attended regarding managing long-term
projects and organizational change. In particlar, all projects or changes
can be broken into three stages:

1. Uninformed optimism, which is the prevalent mindset when a project begins.

2. Informed pessimism, which occurs once a project has been underway long
enough for participants to realize it's probably going to be harder and
take longer than they originally anticipated. At this stage, some
participants may even decide the vision of the final project as they now
see it is such that they no longer wish to participate.

3. Informed realism, which follows once the initial problems are worked out
and the non-committed drop out.

I think we may have reached the second stage. For those who have the
commitment to tough it out, better times are ahead.
