OPENCARD is a trademark of The OpenCard Consortium.

Eric(?), would something this simple work?

No because you imply two different and contradictory things : a license (which
is a private property interest) and public domain. It would be interpreted as
a donation of private property to the public domain.

That said, it quite clearly prohibits using the trademark - though we still
need a different name because openCard is already in use!
