Alain: Agreed.

Alain: I am sure that you are correct, Anthony. That's
why we will provide them with a Web page that gives
them all the directions that they need. If they ask us
a question, then we answer back with a clickable URL.
Our FAQ could handle this too. And perhaps, given
time, we could invent a new way .. some kind of
Web-bot that they could interact with directly!
Anything is possible ... if and when we "we get big".

> Anthony: No. NNTP has a major advantage:
> It can be browsed online.

Alain: I don't know about you, Anthony, but I browse
my E-mail online (eg. my free Yahoo mail account).

> If a mailing list gets 1000 messages,
> I have one choice: download.

Alain: Well .. this is not entirely accurate. You
could do some (dreaded) mail-filtering. A simple
mail-filter mechanism is built into Netscape
Communicator. I don't know about Explorer, because I
don't use ANY MicroSoft products. But I know for a
fact that you can do some sophisticated mail-filtering
with scriptable text-based email-clients, like Eudora
for example.

> Anthony: If a newsgroup gets 1000 messages,
> I can ignore them.

Alain: I haven't used news much but what I do recall
is that, upon subscribing to any newsgroup, one is
inundated with hundreds of messages in one humungous
download. I admit, however, that this very well may be
because of my lack of familiarity with this means of
mediated communication.

>> Adrian: I don't fire up my newsreader,
>> but I ALWAYS get email.

> Anthony: Hmmm... I do both.
> Sometimes I even read news more often.

Alain: What news feeds/groups are you suscribed to,
Anthony? Anything you would like to pass on to this
group? What news-client software are you using?

> [Note: We won't be running a full newsfeed,
> or even a feed at all. Unless maybe we wanted
> csm.hypercard]

Alain: How about this pie-in-the-sky idea: We
eventually do and/or participate-in a newsfeed, but
not the mainstream news of course. Just an interesting
grouping (community) of related open source groups,
say.

> Anthony: I won't try to convince anyone to
> go news only until the proof of concept has
> proven itself :) Ultimately, I don't
> think I'll need to [convince anyone].

Alain: Nothing convinces more than a good
demonstration. Extra points for attitude and
perseverance, eh!

> Anthony: I think we're now running: (...).

Alain: This Linux-project is really turning out great.
I know what the objective is. I know and understand
what is going on. I am kept abreast of developments.
So far, we nearly agree on everything. What we don't
agree on is not hindering our ability to proceed.
Different points are being argumented in a rigorous
and objective manner.

Alain: A model for FreeCard? I would like to think so.
Everything is going fairly well with FreeCard, in my
book, although I vaguely fear that some of us don't
think that we are proceeding fast enough. I wish that
I had had more time to devote to our collaboration.
It's one of my New Year's resolutions to dedicate more
time to our collaboration. We will see how it will pan
out. Close parenthesis. Back to the subject at hand.
The main difference between the Linux-project and our
FreeCard collaboration is that I have only a very
vague idea what is going on with FreeCard. Where is
the interpreter at? What is there left to do? If new
programmers volunteer to help you, then what will you
delegate to them? Same goes for the Block-File-Format
too.

> Anthony: Maybe we'd better ask Alain how
> much RAM and disk space this machine has.

Alain: RAM = 64 MB ; disk = 1 GB when empty

> Anthony: 17 services off of one box. This should be
> interesting.

Alain: No doubt about it :)

> Anthony: Any IP yet, Alain?

Alain: The 20,000-dollar question, eh! I have spoken
with my ISP. They are aware of my need to be connected
up. They are sending me the Ethernet cable by internal
mail. I should get this cable before this week ends.
Hence, we should be up and running (IP) by this friday.
