Alain: This does seem strange to me, because: (1) I am
not employing any change recently made to JavaScript.
(2) Not long ago, several months in fact, I was using
Netscape 4.0.x with an earlier version of my system.
(3) Over 4000 students (and a dozen teachers) have
used my system in the last three years without any
substantial problems.

Alain: Officially, yes. However, it is still available
at the following address:
http://giguere.dsc.uqam.ca/FreeCard/index.html

Alain: It would indeed be informative to know, for the
group's sake, and for my own as well.

Alain: Rest assured that nothing is being thrown out.
As I wrote above, approximately 1250 students use my
system each year. More will follow suit. And we are
talking newbies, many of which have never touched
computers before this. They have a zero-tolerance for
anything that even remotely ressembles a bug. What
makes my job easier, given that the context is a
compulsory course and that the teacher can impose any
restrictions that he deems necessary for the smooth
operation of his course, is that I know exactly what
browsers I have to target, I know that everyone is
using the ones that we suggest, and that they are on
their own if the attempt it with anything else.
> Uli: Alain, how exactly did you generate the page?
Alain: HyperCard-based CGI programs, as in the past.
> Uli: Manually, with a stack, with a Perl script...?
Alain: There is no Perl or AppleScript in this one.

Alain: It is pure HyperCard.

Alain: I am currently using Netscape 4.6.1
Alain: My students are predominantly using Netscape
4.x or the corresponding version of Explorer. Many are
still using Netscape 3.x, despite our strong
recommendation to upgrade to 4.x. They have been
forewarned, however, that they are responsible if
something anything goes awry, and hence that they must
upgrade instead of pestering us. None of them have had
any 3.x problems, though ... so far as I know.
