'suspend' and 'resume' are the fairly-standard terms used for the thing
though, on Unix. Should we use something else, we'll create confusion
for new software -- not just for stuff written in the 80's.
Besides, we could just strip or rename suspend/resume handlers in HC
stacks. Actually, that is probably a bad idea; I bet people have used
those handlers not knowing their true meaning.
