Amen to that. PC/SC is pretty dire, and the MS implementation is 
dangerous.  I say this after having personal experience of rendering 2 
NT 4.0 workstations unuseable after installing a certain PC/SC driver & app.

This isn't totally Microsofts fault, as it was a 3rd party driver, but 
putting the PC/SC subsystem at such a deep level in the kernel causes 
big problems when it goes wrong.

IMHO, the OCF architecture is superior and more elegant, and even more 
intuitive.  Unfortunately a lot of card / terminal vendors are pretty 
conservative when it comes to such matters.  Look how long it took 
before we saw dev kits for JavaCard patforms available for non-Win32 
platforms.
