I first reproduced your problem after reconfiguring here and then
took a look at optarg.c. Once I removed the comment from the final
#endif in optarg.c the fatal diagnostics disappeared. Apparently my
Solaris C (V4.2), and I'll bet yours, cannot cope with comments on
pre-processor commands.
I've been getting the 'yuiif' diagnostics too but since they're not
fatal, I've chosen to look the other way :-).
Anyway, if you stick with Solaris C, you need to watch out for
preprocessing directives with trailing comments.
Foe the record, I didn't run into this problem under AIX with the
factory compilers. We don't even have gmake/gcc on our AIX system(s).
