Actually, there aren't any examples of this available because I don't think anybody has done it. I think it would be possible to do with JNI, but can JNI code be loaded dynamically? I think their would have to be a large amount of wrapper code written just to deal with passing variables, etc.

The section of the manual that you are reading is referring to the special macros that enable the Java based web distribution to talk with the executive during an execution and nothing to do with Java modules.

Hi Randy,

Thanks for the tip. I got the latest tar and read the
page you suggested.

The documentation, though helpful, talks about running a network in an
applet in a brower. It does not, as far as I can tell, address the
simpler problem: how to write a module in java to run in the conventional
DX interface. Maybe if I were smarter :} I would be able to figure
this out on my own...

David does imply that this is possible. In section 11.1, he says:

Once the Java Explorer modules are added, the network can
be executed from either the standard DX user interface
or a web browser via the Java Explorer server, elimininating
   dual-source problems.

It would be very helpful to see just a minimal example of a java module --
a little recipe for cooking up one which I can plug into the regular
DX UI.

Any tips?

Many thanks, and I hope I am not being annoying -
