I can't tell if you are browsing or have installed openDX. You might see
some pictures on the opendx.org gallery (maybe David T. can point out
specific examples). If you've installed openDX, there are sample programs
with sample data included in the package. Vectors are shown directly with
AutoGlyph (as rockets or needles), vector fields with Streamlines or
Streaklines. Vector magnitude can be trivially computed and colormapped
within DX. Vector gradient can be trivially computed and realized in a
number of ways as well. For examples, once you've derived/extracted a
scalar quantity from a vectorial input, isosurfaces, plots, colormaps,
rubbersheets of a slice through the field, etc. etc.
