It means dxui can't find a running dxexec. probably dxui could not start dxexec. It could arise from a number of problems, but from experience it is likely due to (0) missing libraries required to run dxexec (at least missing from LD_LIBRARY_PATH ) or (1) a downlevel dx shell script that does not fix up the path automatically or (2) the binaries and or dx shell script are placed in an arbitrary location or renamed, or (3) a problem starting dxexec: You can try dx -execonly or dx -execonly -processors 1 to rule out or help fix #0 and #3 . You would have relevant information regarding #1 or #2. It is possible (likely) that the dxui message window has some relevant, though potentially confusing, messages from the ui's attempt to start dxexec.
