Pete and Jeff,

Thanks for your notes. Here is the result of further tests on my SGI running
irix 6.5.

The version of ImageMagick I have installed is the from ftp.wizards.dupont.com
which is the one referenced in the README file that comes with this version of
opendx binaries for irix 6.5.

I have made the links to /usr/lib32 for the ImageMagick libraries. There are
no other versions of the IM libraries on the computer. I am able to use
"convert" to convert between various file formats. The dxexec core dump occurs
whenever I try to write any ImageMagick supported format (gif, tiff, jpeg) and it
does write the intermediate .miff file.

Running dbx on the core file doesn't yield any useful information. Here are the
results:

dbx /usr/local/dx/bin_sgi/dxexec
dbx version 7.2.1 Mar 13 1998 19:00:36
PC value from core file (0x104c36a4) is not part of the program.
Assuming return register value (0x104c36a4) usable to locate PC.
Core from signal SIGILL: Illegal instruction
(dbx) where
> 0 <Unknown>() [< unknown >, 0x104c36a4]
(dbx) quit

There is no copy of Purify on this computer.

Please let me know if any of this makes sense to you and thanks again for your
help.

Susan

Thanks for the results (but I was hoping this problem was solved).

I see Jeff reports success with javadx on Irix 6.5, but perhaps this is just
luck. I run a slightly later 4.0.10+ on irix 6.2 (built 1/26) but the magick
related files were dated December, so Jeff's build should be current Image
Magick wise. I ran the gif stuff today just to be sure.

Did you get IM 5.1.1 per Jeff's readme, an intermediate version or the IM 5.2
currently available? (Jeff, can your binary run with 5.2?)

Is the stack trace informative? (dbx dxexec ... where ).

Can you use IM's convert utility write a gif?
I assume convert uses the same library (or at least the same code).

Can you refine the problem by writing other formats from OpenDX that exercise
libMagick (jpeg, pdf, etc.)
or do they all coredump? Do you get the intermediate .miff file?

Is there another copy/version of libMagick leftover on the machine?

Does anyone have a copy of purify on one of these machines?

Pete
