for which directory? /usr/local/dx/bin?

renaming tcsh to csh improved but I then get a 'can't find cygwin1.dll in
...'.
I copied the required dll (cygwin1 and libpng) into /usr/local/bin and
retried.
I then got
_X11TransSocketOpen: socket() failed for local
_X11TransSocketOpenCOTSClient: Unable to open socket for local
_X11TransOpen: transport open failed for local/unix:0
Error: Can't open display: unix:0

changing unix:0 to 127.0.0.1:0 in dxworker did not improve.
