just want to make sure that you understand that the order of positions in
the "positions" array can be completely arbitrary. You needn't rearrange
anything there. You simply have to create a "connections" array of integer
vectors (for cubes, of rank 1 shape 8) that are the indices into the
arbitrary positions list.

Now that said, I believe it is the case that the ordering is relative only
to each cell. As long as you keep the same sense of "starting in the back
lower left corner" and winding across the face, then the volume, then the
face to end up at "top front right" corner, you should be OK. As always,
start with a tiny practice set.
